For breast cancer awareness month, Randall Reed’s Planet Ford in Humble created a custom Ford Mustang that was “pinked out” to support “the cure” during the month of October.

So many people are affected by this deadly disease every year. With early detection and education being key, Planet Ford teamed up with Memorial Hermann Hospital for Project Mammogram to raise money and awareness. For each vehicle sold, Planet Ford donates a portion of the proceeds. Project Mammogram provides breast cancer education, mammograms and other diagnostic services to under served and the uninsured.

Planet’s “In the Pink” ‘stang garnered a lot of attention out of the gate. Erica Rico from Q Morning Zoo on 93Q drove it around town and it was featured on Fox 26 News. Then, Ford Motor Co. invited Planet to bring the custom Mustang to the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure in Houston, TX.

At the race, people lined up to see the car that was “Moving Ford’ward for The Cure.”  Many fell in love with it. However, when Gabriela Spellman (a 2009 breast cancer survivor) asked to sit in the car, it became a story of “girl meets car, girl falls in love with car.” She told told her husband, David, that this was the car she had been looking for. Her husband decided to surprise Gabriela. See the video below:

David contacted Kristi Williams, the Community Relations Director and executive assistant to Chuck Kramer, General Manager/Operating Partner for Planet Ford in Humble.  David shared his wife’s story and how she wanted the car. Initially, the car was created to be driven around town for awareness, but Kristi got the OK from Mr. Kramer for Gabriele to get the car of her dreams. Kristi and David then devised a plan to surprise Gabriela. They told her that David was visiting the dealership to buy a new Ford F-150.

When Gabriela showed up, the entire Randall Reed’s Planet Ford team was ready and waiting in pink to surprise her. As you can see in the video, Gabriela was surprised and left speechless. It was a very moving moment for everyone at the dealership. Our team could not be more happy to see our custom-created “In the Pink” Mustang drive off with such a strong and deserving woman.

Before she drove away, Gabriela shared what she felt the car meant and could do for others.  It is her hope hopes that when women see it, it will remind them that they need to get their mammograms and annual check ups.  Early detection was key for her and implores others be proactive as it can save lives.

Randall and Sherry Reed, along with the Planet Ford team care about community and are proud to support this cause. You can help support it to when you purchase a New Ford at Planet Ford.
