Planet Ford in Humble Earns a 7th Consecutive Triple Crown

Randall Reed’s Planet Ford in Humble is proud to announce, once again, the award-winning team has garnered Ford’s highest honors for customer service and sales. For the seventh year in a row, the Houston-area dealership is the recipient of multiple prestigious awards for outstanding service and sales, including seven back-to-back Ford Triple Crown and President’s Awards. The Planet Ford team is among a select and elite group of only 33 Ford dealerships to receive these prestigious recognitions by Ford Motor Company.

This year, Randall Reed is the only independent dealer to have three of his Ford dealerships recognized of a total of 32, which were chosen from the 3,208 dealerships across the nation. Last year, Ford recognized Mr. Reed for the historic and unprecedented honor of being the first independent Ford dealer to earn the Triple Crown award at every single location within the same year. In addition, Mr. Reed was named the seventh inductee into the 2018 Ford Dealer Hall of Fame.

These awards distinguish the top-dealerships that have excelled in providing an exceptional customer service experience in the automotive retail industry. The Triple Crown is garnered by a small percentage of dealerships nationwide. They must first qualify by winning the President’s Award for customer satisfaction, the Ford Top 100 and the ESP Premier Club award for customer service.

Many deployed men and women are unable to afford the cost to travel home to visit loved ones during the holidays. The Texas-based charity arranges it all through its holiday travel assistance program. The program pays for flights, so that soldiers can travel home to their loved ones for the holidays. Since the charity began, it has covered 74 trips for deserving service members and sent more than 700 custom care packages.

In an effort to raise awareness and money for Boots For Troops, Planet Ford in Humble & Spring have donated a new 2018 F-150 to be customized and featured on the TV show, Texas Metal. A new Ford engine built. A 7.3-liter V8 joins the standard 6.2-liter V8 in Super Duty’s gas engine stable. The Ford-designed and Ford-built third-generation 6.7-liter Power Stroke® diesel V8 is upgraded to deliver more power and torque. An all-new Ford-designed and Ford-built 10-speed heavy-duty TorqShift® automatic transmission is paired with the 7.3-liter V8 and third-generation 6.7-liter Power Stroke® diesel V8. Ford is the only manufacturer to design and build all of its heavy-duty engine and transmission combinations – ensuring the powertrain works seamlessly with all chassis components and vehicle calibrations.

“With the addition of the 7.3-liter V8, upgrades to our 6.7-liter and the debut of an all-new 10-speed transmission, we are delivering the strongest, most capable Super Duty powertrain offerings yet,” said Mike Pruitt, Ford Super Duty chief engineer.

The 2020 is equipped with new Pro Trailer Backup Assist that can help you master putting the largest trailers into the tightest of spaces. With hands off the steering wheel, drivers use the Pro Trailer Backup Assist knob to easily steer the trailer via the reverse camera. The truck’s Trailer Reverse Guidance system shows trailer angle and direction, and provides steering suggestions to most efficiently direct a trailer backward. Both systems are built to accommodate all trailer styles, including fifth-wheel and gooseneck trailers.

Staying connected is an important part of today’s work. Every new 2020 Super Duty includes FordPass Connect™ embedded 4G LTE modem with Wi-Fi access for up to 10 devices, keeping crews in communication no matter where the job might take them.

Available lane-keeping alert helps you stay between the lines on the road, while the Blind Spot Information System with trailer coverage monitors for vehicles in your blind spots – even when towing. Pre-Collision Assist with Automatic Emergency Braking aids in avoiding or mitigating collisions with other vehicles. These features are standard on XLT and above Super Duty models. Modern touches include the addition of wireless charging and USB-C ports to power your devices.

Upgrades Inside and Out

The new front-end design allows for optimized cooling and lighting performance under heavy loads. For the first time, all dual-rear-wheel Super Duty trucks are fitted with a uniquely designed high-airflow grille optimized for maximum powertrain cooling.

Decorative appliqués on the doors and media bin door have been updated on Lariat, while on Platinum edition trucks, these pieces have been updated to Onyx Argento wood. The interior of the Limited model is completely refreshed, with colors updated to Ebony and Highland Tan to provide a refined, modern feel. Limited features authentic materials like genuine leather, a coarse ash wood in black and modern brushed aluminum trim. Crafted details include decorative stitching on the leather-wrapped instrument panel topper, wrapped door armrests, seating and center console lid, and an embroidered Super Duty logo added to the floor mats. A soft headliner in Miko® suede is intended to give the cabin an expansive feel.

The new Ford F-Series stands as the most tested pickup in the company’s history. Enduring more than 12 million miles of testing for the 2017 model year, which was increased by an additional 7 million miles for 2020 to ensure the new Super Duty can stand up to the rigors the most exacting truck customers demand of it. These test includes running the truck around the clock under the most extreme loads and through all kinds of environmental conditions using dynos, test tracks and public roads. Because the testing surfaces and durability test tracks are so punishing, many of the miles are run using robot drivers that can handle the abuse better than humans to ensure every F-Series truck is Built Ford Tough.

The Ford Driving Skills for Life training is kicking off 2019 at NRG Stadium in Houston on February 2-3, 2019.

Ford Driving Skills for Life is an award winning hands-on program for teens and new drivers that allows participants to drive Ford vehicles in a closed area through different scenarios and workshops that teach drivers the skills they need to be safe on the road.

Teens will be trained on: hazard recognition, braking and stopping distance, vehicle handling, dangers of distracted and impaired driving, space management, reaction time and more!

2020 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 Lands At Detroit Auto Show

The most powerful street-legal Ford in history is here and our team at Randall Reed’s Planet Ford in Humble, Texas could not be more exciting. Arriving this fall in dealership, the all-new 2020 Mustang Shelby GT500 is a supercharged 5.2-liter V8 producing more than 700 horsepower.

The Power Of GT500

Ford’s Shelby GT500 starts with a supercharged 5.2-liter aluminum alloy engine built by hand. To keep the intake air cooler and deliver a lower center of gravity, the team inverted a 2.65-liter rootstype supercharger with air-to-liquid intercooler tucked neatly in the V8 engine valley.

Like Shelby GT350, the aluminum alloy block features weight-saving wire-arc cylinder liners and high-flow aluminum cylinder heads, plus larger forged connecting rods, improved lubrication and cooling passages. Beneath that, a structural oil pan adds strength, reduces vibration, and features a patented active baffle system to keep oil where it’s needed.

To harness its power and torque to the unique carbon fiber driveshaft, Ford Performance leveraged learnings from the tuning of its Ford GT supercar’s dual-clutch transmission. The team selected a TREMEC® 7-speed dual-clutch transmission, which is capable of shifts in under 100 milliseconds. This dual-clutch transmission is designed for a number of drive modes, including normal, weather, sport, drag and track, and activates features like line-lock and launch control through selectable Track Apps.

All of this in sweet, synergistic harmony with one another gives the GT500 a projected 700-plus horsepower and blistering straightline speeds.

Power and torque are just one element of many to the all-new GT500. To take advantage of these accomplishments, Ford gave the most powerful Mustang ever produced cutting-edge active chassis technology, track-bred Michelin tires and Brembo® brakes – all dialed in by Ford Performance.

Shelby GT500 takes advantage of revised suspension geometry, a new electronic power steering unit and lighter-weight coil springs front and rear. Next-generation active MagneRide™ suspension is one of many baked-in goodies, along with the latest in advanced drive mode technologies from Ford Performance. The payoff is the highest-ever lateral acceleration from a Mustang for greater track performance and driver control.

A performance vehicle like this calls for a performance sized tire and braking system. Putting all this chassis hardware to the pavement is:

  • Custom Ford Performance-spec Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires
  • 16-5-inch (420-millimeter) two-piece rotors
  • Larger, stiffer Brembo sixpiston calipers.

The GT500’s new braking system has 20 percent more swept area than the Shelby GT350’s, giving these brakes more than 30 percent additional thermal mass in the front corners.

In addition to the new performance braking systems and tires, are two handling packages with increasing level capability. An available Handling Package includes adjustable strut top mounts and spoiler with Gurney flap.

For the true hardcore performance vehicle enthusiast, Ford offers an available Carbon Fiber Track Package which features:

  • Exposed 20-inch carbon fiber wheels with 0.5-inch-wider rear wheels (11.5-inch)
  • Custom Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires
  • Adjustable exposed carbon fiber GT4 track wing and splitter wickers with integrated dive plane
  • Rear seat delete to reduce weight

The purpose-built cockpit of the GT500 boasts race-inspired premium materials and unique finishes worthy of its world-class power. Premium touchpoints include an available exposed carbon fiber instrument panel appliqué and new door panel inserts in Dark Slate Miko® suede with accent stitching.

Performance shouldn’t mean sacrificing comfort. Ford offers two available seating flavors. Recaro racing seats with firm side bolstering and pass-throughs for safety harnesses offer the highest level of performance, while those looking for even greater comfort, power-adjustable seating with Miko suede inserts is offered.

Ford puts a lot of emphasis on technology, which is why the all-new Shelby GT500 picks up a 12-inch full-color LCD instrument cluster, first introduced on the Mustang GT and Ecoboost packages. The GT500 also gets an available high performance custom-tuned 12-speaker B&O® Play premium audio system. New Shelby, new colors. For 2020, the GT500 introduces Red Hot, Twister Orange and Iconic Silver. Painted stripes are available too.
