Randall Reed’s Planet Ford supports Breast Cancer Awareness Month

The Reed family and the Randall Reed Planet Ford team in Humble, Texas believe it’s crucial to support our community and causes. This month is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, which is an annual campaign to increase awareness of the disease that affects so many that we care about. Ford also has an ongoing mission called Ford Warriors in Pink. Ford Motor Co. has been active in fighting against breast cancer since 1993.

By continually asking, “what more can we do?” Ford Warriors in Pink has become an active, inspiring support system for many who are affected by the disease.

Because breast cancer is relentless, Warriors in Pink is relentless – dedicated to fueling the spirit of those living with the disease 365 days a year. We help by taking a number of actions to make an impact in the fight against breast cancer.

Models of Courage

Ford Warriors in Pink is showing its dedication to everyone touched by breast cancer by creating an army of warriors in select cities across the country. They’re called Models of Courage (MOCs). And they are patients, survivors, thrivers and co-survivors ready to help us empower those currently in the fight.

The Models of Courage are activist that help bring #moregooddays. As patients or survivors of breast cancer, they rely on their good days to get them through the tough days. Ford Warriors in Pink invites people to join their movement in giving #moregooddays.

Ford Warriors in Pink has numerous tips and ways for you to participate in helping a patient receive a good day.

The Models of Courage bring you their top five ways to create a good day:

Laugh yourself silly – laughter is a part of happiness in life. Send silly cards, tell or ask funny jokes, find or give the kind of content that makes you laugh.

Turn Treatments into something more – Plan themed chemo treatments with hats, snacks and silly gags.

Organize a Meal Train – Be a self-starter by creating one for a patient, ask for help, it’ll help organize your supporters to help provide meals and more in a true time of need.

Share and share alike – Tell or ask to hear positive stories about people who have been in a similar place in their lives. Buy or bring magazines that you can chat about, laugh at or pass along later. Create a playlist for yourself or someone else.

Get moving – Get up, get out and go for a walk – together. Sway to the rhythm of an upbeat song. Fly a kite. Or ask someone to go with you on a windy day and watch it dance in the wind.

Artificial Intelligence Helps Drives Ford Edge, Reduces Fuel Usage

It is no longer the stuff of science fiction movies, artificial intelligence (AI) is now being used to help improve your journey and improve your fuel efficiency, too.

Coming soon to Randall Reed’s Planet Ford in Humble is the new 2019 Ford Edge. It will be made with available all-wheel drive that is smart enough to detect the different driving conditions you encounter and automatically shift between two-wheel and all-wheel drive. That means your vehicle will provides all-wheel-drive traction when you really need it, and switch it off when you don’t to help reduce your fuel consumption.

Ford Artificial Intelligence Tech First 

The new 2019 Ford Edge with Artificial Intelligence

The new 2019 Ford Edge with available all-wheel drive is smart enough to detect various driving conditions and automatically shift between two-wheel and all-wheel drive. The feature provides all-wheel-drive traction when it is needed, and helps reduce fuel consumption when it’s not.

The new available system is called all-wheel-drive disconnect. This first-for-Ford technology uses a form of AI which is able to calculate quicker than most of our human brains. Utilizing information that it is always receiving from a series of high-tech sensors, the new Edge is able to determine in a fraction of a second whether all-wheel drive should be engaged.

According to Scott Beiring, Ford driveline applications supervisor, “The concept is pretty simple, it was the execution that was the challenge. Shifting between two- and all-wheel drive needs to be fast and seamless enough that the customer doesn’t know it is happening.”

Not only does the electronic brain receive input from the sensors, it also interacts with the traction control system to detect wheel slip, and input from the anti-lock brake system to learn if that system is active. But wait…there’s more. The high-tech system even detects if the vehicle’s wipers are on, whether the SUV has a trailer in tow, as well as the current outside temperature.

Leading-Edge Logic

The system uses an algorithm that Ford referes to as “fuzzy logic” which processes all of the data. It is constantly monitoring and can detect in 10 milliseconds if the vehicle needs to engage or disengage all-wheel drive. It will then quickly distribute up to 100 percent of the available power from the front to the rear wheels, depending on driving conditions detected by the system.

Technology Fuels Efficiency

New 2019 Ford Edge AI available technology adjusts to driving conditions and helps increase fuel efficiency.

Ford states that the all-wheel-drive disconnect is the primary reason for the 2019 Ford Edge’s improved EPA-estimated fuel economy ratings. All-wheel drive equipped Ford Edge SUVs have EPA-estimated fuel economy ratings of 21 mpg city/28 mpg highway/23 mpg combined. The front-wheel drive vehicles have EPA-estimated fuel economy ratings of 22 mpg city/29 mpg highway/25 mpg combined.

With standard all-wheel drive and a 2.7-liter V6 EcoBoost® engine, Edge ST, the first SUV from the Ford Performance team, has EPA-estimated fuel economy ratings of 19 mpg city/26 mpg highway/21 mpg combined. Actual mileage may vary. [1]

Additional fuel-saving tech features include:

  • 8-speed automatic transmission with two overdrive gears. Decreases engine rpm for improved fuel economy during highway cruising.
  • Active transmission warm-up.  Utilized reclaimed heat energy to warm up the transmission faster.
  • Standard Auto Start-Stop. Helps save fuel by shutting off the engine when the vehicle comes to a stop and auto-starts when the driver removes their foot from the brake.
  • Deceleration fuel shut-off stops fuel flow to the engine when the vehicle is reducing speed.
  • Exhaust gas recirculation  reduces harmful emissions and increases efficiency by allowing a larger throttle position, thereby reducing pumping loss.
  • Aerodynamic edge. The 2019 models are equipped with active grille shutters, full underbody shields and air curtains to reduce drag.

Jesse Gutierrez Awarded New Dream Ford F-150 Truck

Randall Reed Announces the Winner of Second Planet Ford Whisperer Contest & Ford F-150 

Randall Reed and the Planet Ford family is excited to announce that Jesse Gutierrez was named the winner of the #PlanetFordWhisperer contest and new Ford F-150! The movie themed announcement was made Sept. 15 on Saturday night to a full crowd of fellow #FordWhisperer’s at the Planet Ford dealership in Humble, Texas.

Ten finalists were brought up to share their Planet Ford Whisperer entries. To enter, contestants registered at PlanetFordWhisperer.com and submitted a video or photo essay. Entrants shared their own Ford Whisperer tale, from why they too were a whisperer or how Mr. Reed has helped them find their ideal Ford. Once an entry was submitted, contestants garnered more attention by sharing on social with #PlanetFordWhisperer and #FordWhisperer and getting friends and family to vote.

The grand prize-winning video by Jesse Gutierrez featured his son, Little Jesse, who was reaching out to Randall Reed, the Ford Whisperer via phone to call for help in raising awareness about September being Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. Little Jesse has been in remission for two years as of this September. The family plans to use the new Ford F-150 to help with a foundation the family is creating, called Jesse’s Fight Club, to transport items for local hospitals and help families with children battling cancer.

After the announcement, Little Jesse shared a rap song with Mr. Reed and his wife, Sherry Reed that he wrote about his days in the hospital and life blessings that followed.

“We just want to thank you,” said Mr. Gutierrez to the Reed family. “Thank you so much for helping us raise awareness about childhood cancer,” Mrs. Gutierrez added. “I feel very excited, very happy to win this truck. It’s going to help my foundation,” said little Jesse.

“We are so proud of Jesse and all of our contestants. We had so great entries that it was a tough choice, a really tough choice to select the finalist,” said Mr. Reed. “Jesse and his family did an amazing job, and they are truly deserving, so we couldn’t be happier for them.”

John Centner, General Manager of Planet Ford in Humble, shared Randall Reed’s sentiment and congratulated all of the awesome Ford Whisperer entrants.

“Every entry brought something different and unique to the Planet Ford Whisperer contest. It was a real honor to recognize and award all of these talented individuals.”

Dana Tyson, the evening’s emcee and host at Sunny 99.1, announced the winning name as confetti exploded, and the Gutierrez family received their new ride to use for a tremendous cause.

The Planet Ford Whisperer Campaign

This is the second big event of giveaways this year for the Ford Whisperer. In May, he gave two dream Fords away as part of the Planet Ford in Spring Grand Opening. Michael Page drove home with a Ford Shelby GT350, while Liz Aronson won the Ford F-150 Raptor.

The Planet Ford Whisperer contest is part of Mr. Reed’s Ford Whisperer campaign created in celebration of a historic Ford first: every single World Class Automotive Ford dealership receiving the Ford Triple Crown in the same year. In addition, the family-owned dealership is celebrating Mr. Reed being the seventh inductee ever into Ford’s Top Sales Volume Dealer Hall of Fame.
