50th Anniversary Bullitt Mustang Coming Summer 2019

Randall Reed’s Planet Ford in Humble has exciting news for both Ford Mustang and Bullitt movie fans!  In celebration of the 50th anniversary of iconic movie “Bullitt” and its fan-favorite San Francisco car chase, Ford is introducing the powerful new 2019 Mustang Bullitt.

The third-generation member of the McQueen family, Molly, starred in a special movie of her own introducing the new third-generation Bullitt at the North American International Auto Show. In the film, Molly races a new Mustang Bullitt through a parking structure battling a Dodge Charger for the final free space.

Helping it win that spot was the Bullitt’s upgraded 5.0-liter V8 engine that will deliver at least 475 horsepower and 420 lb.-ft. of torque, pushing the new Bullitt to a top speed of 163 mph – an 8 mph increase versus the latest Mustang GT.

Due out this summer – the all-new Mustang Bullitt is equipped with a manual transmission, and the gear shifter features a white cue ball shift knob as a nod to the original. The vehicle packages all Mustang GT Premium and Performance Package content into a vehicle that maintains the original Bullitt’s understated persona.

An active valve performance exhaust system is standard with new Black NitroPlate™ exhaust tips, and retuned to give the car a signature burble, as well as new Open Air Induction System and Shelby GT350 intake manifold with 87mm throttle bodies and powertrain control module calibration for optimal performance.

Other standard equipment includes a heated leather steering wheel and a 12-inch all-digital LCD instrument cluster, identical in function to the cluster introduced on 2018 Mustang, but with a unique Bullitt welcome screen that starts in green with an image of the car rather than the pony.

“This new Bullitt is, as Steve McQueen was, effortlessly cool,” said Darrell Behmer, Mustang chief designer. “As a designer, it’s my favorite Mustang – devoid of stripes, spoilers and badges. It doesn’t need to scream about anything – it’s just cool.”

Exterior paint choices are limited to Shadow Black and the classic Dark Highland Green – as worn in the movie. Other features that pay tribute to the car McQueen drove are subtle chrome accents around the grille and front windows, classic torque thrust 19-inch aluminum wheels, red painted Brembo™ brakes, and a unique black front grille. Inside and out, the vehicle uses minimal badging; only the circular faux gas cap Bullitt logo on the rear center is visible on the exterior.

The leather-trimmed interior features unique green accent stitching on the dashboard, door panels, center console and seats.

Aside from the two exterior paint choices, Mustang Bullitt buyers are limited to three factory-installed options:

  • Bullitt Electronics Package includes navigation, driver memory seats and mirrors, upgraded sound system and Blind Spot Information System with Cross-Traffic Alert that can alert customers of vehicles detected in difficult-to-see places
  • MagneRide® semi-active suspension system optimizes driving performance
  • RECARO® black leather-trimmed seats

“When making a Bullitt, there are certain things it absolutely must have,” stated Carl Widmann, Mustang chief engineer. “It has to have the right attitude, it has to be unique in some way from a Mustang GT, and more than anything, it has to be bad ass.”

That reputation was born after a Mustang GT fastback played a prominent role in the 1968 movie, and most notably in a chase scene that set new standards in filmmaking. The film’s nearly 10-minute-long sequence followed McQueen chasing down two hitmen in his Mustang through the streets of San Francisco.

Mustang Bullitt will go on sale this summer for $46,595 plus a $900 destination and delivery charge.

Ford Steps Back to Move Forward in Autonomous Market

Randall Reed’s Planet Ford in Humble, Texas is always watching changes in technology, and learning the pack as usual is Ford Motor Company.  They just revealed plans to move the American manufacturer’s key autonomous vehicle and electric vehicle business and strategy teams to the city where the company got its start — a historic building known as The Factory.

The industrial complex has a rich 110-year history and has been refurbished in the Detroit Corktown neighborhood. It is expected to be opening running next year. The Motor City location will allow Ford teams to immerse themselves in urban mobility challenges and solutions.

“We’re excited to choose this inspirational location in one of Detroit’s resurgent neighborhoods to accelerate our work on electric and autonomous vehicles,” said Jim Hackett, Ford president and CEO. “This move and our exciting Dearborn campus transformation are important steps as we move toward our aspiration to become the world’s most trusted mobility company – designing smart vehicles for a smart world.”

The new location holds special meaning for Executive Chairman Bill Ford, whose ancestors emigrated from County Cork, Ireland, to the Dearborn, Michigan, area years ago. Corktown, Detroit’s oldest neighborhood, derives its name from immigrants from County Cork who settled there.

“Returning to Detroit is particularly meaningful, because it is where my great-grandfather originally set out to pursue his passion and where we have always called our home,” said Ford. “We are planting a special piece of our company’s future in one of the city’s great neighborhoods, because we believe in Detroit, its people and what we can build together.”

The move is more than a relocation – it’s a strategic decision aligned with a mission. The company is committed to helping improve the entire system of transporting people and goods, especially in cities facing major challenges such as congestion, pollution, accidents and other transportation issues that affect everything from productivity to quality of life.

The Corktown relocation means employees will be working in the heart of these challenges, experiencing life firsthand in one of the nation’s burgeoning urban neighborhoods. More than 220 employees will be working at the new location.

Recognizing the Past & Embracing the Future
The move to Detroit is both a nod toward the past as the company drives forward. This move will allow Ford to reaffirm its commitment to a city where its journey first began.

“Having these teams together in a dedicated facility in the heart of Detroit is truly a full-circle moment for Ford,” said Jim Farley, Ford executive vice president and president, global markets. “It’s such a conducive environment for sharing ideas, for collaboration, and for accelerating our electric vehicle efforts. We have such a great team, and we’ll be hearing more from them in the coming months.”

Going Beyond
The team in Corktown will be led by Sherif Marakby, Ford vice president of autonomous vehicles and electrification. Marakby is a Ford veteran who first joined the company in 1990, leaving briefly for a stint in Silicon Valley.

Ford is focused on driving its electric vehicle business forward, both with hybrid vehicles and full battery-electric vehicles with research led by Ford’s Team Edison. The team is working to accelerate both the development and adoption of electric vehicles.

In addition, Team Edison is focused on fostering partnerships with other companies to deliver smart solutions, following Ford’s global lead. Ford recently created an electric vehicle partnership with Zotye, creating Zotye Ford Automobile Co., a 50-50 joint venture that will offer a range of stylish and affordable electric vehicles for consumers in China.

Ford already has a variety of active partnerships related to the future of mobility. With Ford’s $1 billion investment in Argo AI, the company is advancing autonomous vehicle development by combining its autonomous vehicle expertise with Argo AI’s robotics experience and startup speed on artificial intelligence software.

Ford’s autonomous vehicle business is built around deploying self-driving vehicles in partnership with leading companies that serve the movement of both people and goods. Working with these partners, such as Lyft and Domino’s Pizza, Ford is conducting research and building out the infrastructure that will help in determining the design of the self-driving vehicle and the customer experience it will enable.

Planned for production beginning in 2021, Ford’s first autonomous vehicle is an all-new hybrid-electric vehicle with self-driving capability. It will be optimized to meet the needs of Ford’s partners to enhance and grow their business operations –  and to deliver the best experience for the people they serve. Key factors in design and performance are:

  • Commercial-grade quality for lower cost of ownership and improved durability to operate in tough urban environments
  • Hybrid-electric powertrain to help reduce emissions and achieve maximum mileage to keep the self-driving vehicle on the road longer
  • Purposely designed for ride-hailing and delivery customer needs
  • Dependable from the outset, integrated for safety by the teams that are engineering, testing and ultimately building Ford’s self-driving vehicles

Building Off History
Located at 1907 Michigan Avenue, the brick building complex that will house Ford’s autonomous and electric vehicle teams was constructed in 1907, the year planning began on the Ford Model T at the nearby Piquette Avenue plant.

The 45,000-square-foot building also has been home to the Chicago Hosiery and Detroit-Alaska Knitting Mills factories. It sits across from the site of historic Tiger Stadium.

Most recently, The Factory has served as headquarters for Buhl Sport Detroit and Brothers Tuning Detroit, and has undergone extensive renovations. The Factory will continue to be the headquarters for both companies, which will be Ford Land tenants.

Planet Ford Presents New Caney High School with Built Ford Tough Player of Week

John Centner, GM of Planet Ford in Humble, presents Jordan Cooper, QB of New Caney High School, with Built Ford Tough Player of the Week

Randall Reed’s Planet Ford in Humble is proud to be part of, support and celebrate our community.  John Centner, General Manager of Planet Ford on Hwy. 59, in conjunction with Ford, presented New Caney High School quarterback Jordan Cooper, along with his coach, Brady Pennington, the Built Ford Tough Texas High School Football Player of the Week.

New Caney High is a Class 5-A school where Jordan has been a stand out player and student.  Ford shares a snapshot of why this outstanding quarter back was selected for this honor: It was a typical Jordan Cooper performance, especially with the odds stacked against his New Caney team. Facing a road game at unbeaten Crosby, with illness forcing five of the Eagles to go both ways, Jordan stepped up to lead New Caney to a surprisingly easy 63-36 victory which produced a district championship. Even more surprising, according to the best available records, New Caney had never beaten Crosby. Cooper got the Eagles off to a 21-13 first-quarter lead, including a 65-yard TD sprint. By halftime, the margin had expanded to 42-13, enabling the tired Eagles to hang on for the victory. The 6-0, 205-pound signal-caller racked up some pretty impressive numbers along the way, completing 13 of 19 passes for 263 yards and two touchdowns and rushing 20 times for 207 yards and three more scores. New Caney scored on every first-half possession. For the regular season, Jordan hit on 104 of 162 through the air for 1,442 yards and 11 scores and rushed 143 times for 1,003 yards and 16 TDs. The Eagles (7-2, 7-1 in district play) meet Vidor at Galena Park Friday night, hoping to win only their second playoff game ever.

Beyond the football field, Jordan is a brilliant student with a 3.45 GPA. He is always there when needed. He coached in the EMC Youth Football program the last two seasons and served as a mentor in the Elite D1 sports training program for youth under age 13. But he was at his heroic best when Hurricane Harvey struck, moving families out of a home in Kingwood and assisting in the demolition of the home. He also helped unload and sort goods delivered to the high school for families in need. All three service academies in FBS are vying for his attention.

Not surprisingly, Coach Pennington says, “as good a player as Jordan is, he’s a better young man. He has a great temperament. Whether he’s just thrown an interception or a touchdown pass, nothing changes. He’s careful to build up his teammates and is quick to point out when they’ve done something well. We try to teach great character to our players and he’s the poster child for our program.”

Congratulations to Jordan, Coach Pennington and New Caney High School for being recognized.  The Planet Ford team in Humble (serving the greater Houston, Atascocita, Kingwood, Katy communities) is proud to be part of honoring your hard work and achievements.  To nominate a Built Ford Tough Player of the Week, see details at www.PlayerOfTheWeek.com. TAWA TEXAS TRUCK RODEO NAMES FORD F-150 NAMED TRUCK OF TEXAS

This is the 14th time that the Ford F-Series has roped in the most prestigious award. That’s right, the 2018 F-150 earned Truck of Texas at the 24th annual competition. In addition, the F-150 Raptor won the Off-Road Pickup Truck category and earned the highest overall personal appeal score and best overall exterior score across all participating vehicles.

“With the new 2018 F-150, we’re honored to earn back-to-back Truck of Texas awards for F-Series, a recognition that speaks to the truck team’s dedication to our hardworking customers,” said Raj Nair, Ford executive vice president and president, North America. “That’s especially true in Texas – truck capital of the world.”

At the Texas Truck Rodeo at Longhorn River Ranch, journalists evaluated trucks on both on- and off-road courses over a two-day period. The panel previously awarded Truck of Texas honors to Ford F-Series in 1993, 1997, 1999, 2003-09, 2011, 2014 and 2016.

“The competition was incredibly fierce at this year’s Texas Truck Rodeo,” said Nic Phillips, TAWA president. “More than 70 member journalists put in more than 300 hours of driving time evaluating the vehicles presented. The results in several categories are separated by the narrowest of margins, just tenths and hundredths of a point, confirming just how competitive the trucks and utility vehicles are today.

“Ford’s 2018 F-150 pickup, boosted by its extreme-performance 2018 Raptor, along with updated EcoBoost® engines and 10-speed transmissions, convinced our journalists to bestow the trophy,” he added.
