Own the Road with Ford’s 2016 Shelby Mustang GT350

Every inch of the Shelby Mustang GT350 is designed with the track in mind. It is pure performance on four wheels. However, the engineers responsible for this beast spent hundreds of hours making it just as comfortable for the daily drive. What results is one of the most balanced and capable Mustangs ever produced, and it should be arriving in Houston-area dealerships this fall.

The highlight of the new Shelby Mustang is, without a doubt, its engine. Ford has entered a new realm of engine design that has mostly been the hallmark of European exotics like Ferrari. The GT350’s V8 engine leaves turbocharging on the drawing room table in favor of natural aspiration, but the real game changer here is the flat-plane crankshaft. The payoff from using a flat-plane configuration in the Mustang’s 5.2L V8 is an extremely high redline and broad power band; reported figures have the GT350 clocking over 500 horsepower and around 400 lb.-ft. of torque. This will make the GT350’s power plant the most powerful naturally aspirated engine Ford has ever produced.

Shelby Mustang GT350

Ford and Shelby engineers were meticulous in the extreme when they were designing this vehicle. Every component of the GT350 works in sync with the rest; the minds behind this racer stuck to the big picture, and thankfully so. Everything about the GT350 is designed to reduce weight, improve aerodynamics, and optimize handling. Its brakes are absolute monsters, with 394-millimeter rotors in front and 380-millimeter rotors in the rear and each paired with Brembo calipers. MangeRide dampers detect changes in yaw and suspension load and adjust suspension stiffness every 10 milliseconds to provide the absolute best handling possible. This is the first time magnetorheological damping has ever been used in a Ford vehicle, and the Shelby Mustang GT350 joins multiple Ferraris, the Audi R8, and other high-performance machines in utilizing this technology.

The interior has received the racing treatment as well. Chrome and other bright finishes are mostly eliminated from the cockpit to reduce glare, and there are five different drive modes that alter the Shelby Mustang’s handling characteristics across a broad spectrum of components and functions, including steering and throttle responsiveness, traction control, MagneRide tuning, and ABS. The available Tech Pack offers premium Shaker audio, MyFord Touch, and leather-trimmed Recaro seats. Every inch of this vehicle was designed not only for maximum performance, handling, and balance, but for maximum comfort and enjoyment for the driver. We’ll bet that driving enthusiasts in Humble, Crosby, and Conroe can’t wait to hit the country roads around Houston so they can see just what this beast is capable of. We here at Randall Reed’s Planet Ford can’t wait to offer you that chance, so come test drive a Shelby Mustang GT350 in Humble this fall and feel the power of Ford Performance.

Randall (left) and Shelby, (right) Reed congratulate Chuck Kramer (center) GM/OP for winning numerous awards at Planet Ford in Humble.

The Planet Ford in Humble and Randall Reed family are proud to announce that once again, the Ford dealership has won its third consecutive Ford Triple Crown. Planet Ford is among an elite group of Ford dealerships to be recognized with Ford’s highest honor.

This prestigious award honor dealerships that have excelled in automotive retailing by providing exceptional customer service and satisfaction. The coveted Triple Crown is achieved by only one percent of dealerships nationwide and a dealership must also win the President’s Award for customer satisfaction and the Ford Top 100 for sales to qualify.

“Earning these accolades three years in a row is extremely difficult and a true reflection of our entire staff’s commitment to delivering the best customer experience possible” says Randall Reed, owner. “I am incredibly proud to receive this recognition. It is even more special because it comes from the people we value most – our wonderful customers. They are really the reason we were able to achieve this award.”IMG_5958

In addition to winning the Triple Crown, the Ford Top 100 for Sales and the President’s Award, Randall Reed’s Planet Ford is also a member of the Premier Club and has an A rating with the Better Business Bureau. The President’s Award was established in 1998. Dealers become eligible through survey responses from customers related to their sales and service satisfaction.

In order to achieve the President’s Award, dealers must exceed customer expectations in every department. “To achieve this level of excellence requires passion, tenacity and hard work,” said Chuck Kramer, General Manager/Operating Partner. “We have an amazing team that puts forth all three every day and truly care about our customers.”

These awards salute top-performing Ford dealerships, including Planet Ford, that embrace these philosophies and achieve the highest levels of customer satisfaction – in both sales and service.

F-150 Garners Top NHTSA Ratings

When customers like you shop for a new vehicle at Randall Reed’s Planet Ford in Humble, they want style, comfort, reliability and, of course, safety. That’s exactly what you’ll find in the Ford F-150 SuperCrew. The best selling truck for 38 years has earned the government’s highest possible crash safety rating .

The Ford F-150 is the toughest, smartest and most capable truck ever. It features 31 new safety-related innovations. With so many layers of safety, it’s no surprise that the SuperCrew has earned a five-star Overall Vehicle Score in the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s New Car Assessment Program.

“The five-star safety rating is a terrific example of One Ford collaboration and innovation,” said Raj Nair, Ford group vice president, Global Product Development. “Our truck team worked together for years to deliver this accomplishment, using an unprecedented combination of advanced materials throughout the all-new F-150. The 2015 model is engineered to be the safest F-150 ever, which matters to customers who depend on this truck to not only get the job done, but also get them safely home.”

Many wondered how the new truck design would perform in safety test. The F-150 has improved performance thanks to a 700-pound weight savings through the use of high-strength steel in the frame; high-strength, military-grade, aluminum alloy in the body; and smart engineering.

According to Ford, a cross-functional group comprised of Ford truck product development veterans and researchers worked to optimize vehicle weight savings and manufacturing design to deliver improved durability, capability, fuel economy and crashworthiness. The team created and patented new structures, materials and joining methods that were tested virtually with supercomputer simulations, then retested in Ford’s advanced labs.

Brains Behind the Brawn
Crash testing of the F-150 started with supercomputers before the first units were ever crash-tested in a lab. Ford engineers developed digital safety models with nearly 1.4 million separate elements to examine how even the every part of the truck would stand up to a variety of crash situation.

Backbone of Safety
At the heart of why the F-150 is so safe begins at the bones of the truck — Ford’s signature, fully boxed frame. An extra crossmember was added and engineers increased the use of high-strength steel to improve the vehicles stiffness, durability and safety. Despite the improvements, the team actually helped reduce the frame’s weight up to 60 pounds.

Ford’s safety engineers found that different shapes could aid in safety. For example, the team developed a patented 12-corner front crush horn to dissipate more energy in a front impact. The uniquely shaped structure helps manage crash forces so the frame buckles predictably to keep those forces away from occupants in the cabin.

The Aluminum-alloy Body
Ford’s advanced research and safety teams worked in tandem to engineer the trucks new high-strength, military-grade, aluminum-alloy body structure to manage what happens in the event of a crash.

The truck’s cab features hydroformed roof rails, extruded roof bows to provide lateral strength across the top of the cab and extruded rocker rails to reinforce lower body strength.

Additional safety improvements can be found down to details including how the truck was joined together. For example, welding was not always the most effective way to join parts, so the team developed ways to connect parts using high-strength adhesives. This resulted in structural strength equal to or greater than traditional welds.

Additional Features:
The F-150 now offers an advanced restraint system that includes an adaptive steering column that adjusts energy management depending on occupant size and safety belt usage. In addition, the system includes dual-stage airbags and side-curtain airbags.

That is just the beginning. Here are a few of the new safety highlights:

  • Safety belt pretensioners added to the belt anchor side that further tighten the lap belt around front seat occupants
  • Curve Control, a technology that slows the truck when it senses the vehicle is going too fast in certain curves
  • Available inflatable rear seat belts for SuperCrew (first-time feature)

Driver-assist features
One exciting feature the Prestige Ford (serving Dallas, Rockwall, Mesquite, Plano, Grapevine, Grand Prairie, Richardson) team loves, is the all-new driver-assist and semi-autonomous technologies, including adaptive cruise control and active park assist.

Ford’s lane-keeping system is particularly exciting. It is designed to help prevent drivers from from drifting out of their own lane. The system road lane markings using a camera mounted between the windshield and interior rear view mirror. Anytime a driver is detected as driving, a warning vibration in the steering wheel is used to alert the driver. The lane-keeping aid can also provide assistance to help guide the F-150 (and other select models) back into the lane as needed.

Ford Tough, Still Efficient
It may be lighter but it still can toy a big load. The new truck can tow up to 1,100 more pounds and haul up to 530 more pounds than the 2014 model. Plus, the F-150 has the highest EPA-estimated fuel economy ratings of any full-sized gasoline pickup on the market. When it is equipped with the available 2.7-liter EcoBoost® , the F-150 4×2 gets an EPA-estimated rating of 19 mpg city, 26 mpg highway and 22 mpg combined.

So, ready to come into Randall Reed’s Prestige for a test drive. Then take the short drive down 635 off Garland Road to 3601 S. Shiloh in Garland, TX. You can shop online 24/7 at www.PrestigeGarland.com.

The Explorer Platinum Has Industry-Exclusive Audio Tech

The Ford Explorer’s new Platinum trim level was announced recently, and America’s best-selling midsize SUV has never looked better. The overall level of luxury was discussed in a previous post, but thanks to a recent exposition by Ford and Sony we have had an intimate look into the Explorer Platinum’s state-of-the-art sound system. Featuring technology that is completely exclusive to Ford, including Live Acoustics and Clear Phase, the 2016 Explorer will be without equal when it comes to pure auditory bliss.

The brand manager for the Explorer, Matt Zuehlk, said that the “Explorer is about pushing boundaries, and authentic high-end home theater sound isn’t just for the living room anymore. The new Platinum series gives customers everything – including a sound system that will knock your socks off.” Correct on all counts – the audio technology featured in the 2016 Explorer Platinum has previously been exclusive to high-end home sound systems, but the Explorer is all about pushing boundaries, after all.

The Live Acoustics algorithm is purposed with producing a precise acoustic signature, developed by Sony engineers after measuring the acoustic qualities of some of the world’s finest concert halls. After over 100 hours of tweaking and tuning, the engineers perfected the Explorer’s ability to reproduce the exact sound quality of those concert halls within its cabin.

Clear Phase technology optimizes the Explorer’s audio output to minimize or eliminate wave interference and sound dispersion within the cabin, with the end result being razor-sharp sound quality. It follows the same principles as sound engineers use when setting up a sound stage for recording: each instrument occupies a specific place among the others to minimize distortion of each unique sound. Within a vehicle, this translates to the perception that sound is being generated on a stage that is larger than the vehicle itself.

Zuehlk sees the Explorer Platinum as filling a ready-made niche in the SUV marketplace: according to him, “90 percent of today’s Explorer Sport buyers purchase the most expensive package available. That’s a strong signal [that] customers are ready for Platinum.” Prior to the Platinum’s announcement, the Sport was the Explorer’s highest trim level. Even with the boosted price tag, Platinum buyers will get all that they paid for and more. Look for the Explorer Platinum at Randall Reed’s Planet Ford this summer, and get ready for a new level of luxury.

2016 Ford Explorer: A New Level of Luxury

After releasing details about the upcoming 2016 Ford Explorer, it is clear that the design team at Ford Motor Company has outdone themselves once again. This midsize SUV has been redesigned from bumper to bumper, and the result is a sleeker, more aerodynamic silhouette that oozes style and sophistication. A wealth of brand-new features and safety systems, a more spacious cabin, and new engine choices combine to form the most attractive Explorer model yet. We here at Planet Ford can’t wait to be able to offer this2016 Explorer Platinum brilliantly designed SUV to Houston drivers, and you’re about to find out why!

Ford continues to push the limits of their engine design, and the three available engine options for the 2016 Explorer prove that a glass ceiling only exists to be broken. The highlight of the lineup is undoubtedly the new 2.3L EcoBoost I-4, which boasts more torque than the standard 3.5L V6. The enhanced power of the four-cylinder EcoBoost means that for the first time, a four-cylinder Explorer can be equipped with 4-wheel-drive and a Class II trailer tow package! The availability of four-cylinder efficiency and V6-level power in a single package makes the EcoBoost-equipped Explorer an ideal choice for Houston-area families gearing up for summer.

The biggest news surrounding the 2016 Explorer is the introduction of the Explorer Platinum. Nirvana leather adorns the major surfaces such as the seats, dashboard, and door inserts, while authentic wood accents and brushed aluminum inserts add a feeling of 2016 Explorer Platinumluxury and sophistication throughout the cabin. Standard rearview and available front cameras provide a 180-degree view and proximity alerts, and they also feature an integrated lens-washing system unique to the 2016 Explorer. Ford’s suite of active safety systems, including the Blind Spot Information System, Lane Keep Assist, and Enhanced Active Park Assist are all standard. The dual-panel moonroof also comes standard on the Explorer Platinum, offering a breathtaking view for everyone in the vehicle to enjoy.

Nearly every feature that is optional on the lower trim levels comes standard in the Platinum. Its 3.5L EcoBoost V6 uses twin turbochargers and direct fuel injection to achieve impressive fuel efficiency, which is aided by the new body design’s aerodynamic improvements and active grille shutters. The V6 EcoBoost is paired with a SelectShift automatic transmission and a 4WD configuration that allows your new Explorer to handle difficult terrain and adverse road conditions with ease. Additionally, the standard Class III Trailer Tow package means your new Explorer will be ready and able to handle anything you need it to do.

At every level, the new 2016 Ford Explorer is built to impress, and it surely does. The continuous innovation and drive to excel displayed by Ford’s design team is a big reason why more people stick with Ford than any other brand year after year. The 2016 Explorer hits Ford dealerships this summer, so why not trade in that used Ford Explorer for the latest in comfort, luxury, and utility? Whether you’re coming from Houston, Crosby, Conroe, or Humble itself, visit Planet Ford in Humble, TX and find out just how much the 2016 Explorer has to offer.

Pavement Optional: Meet the 2017 Ford Raptor

Ford has recently come out with a very welcome announcement for off-road enthusiasts and performance truck fans in Houston: the Ford Raptor performance pickup will be returning for the 2017 model year. Although it will not carry the SVT badge that previous versions proudly displayed, this is only due to the fact that Ford’s Special Vehicle Team has merged into Ford Performance. The new Raptor will be joining Ford Performance’s growing stable, which includes the upcoming Ford GT and the highly anticipated Focus RS.

The new 2017 Raptor will be built in the same vein as the 2015 F-150, but with an all-terrain twist. The rolled-steel frame and lightweight aluminum body boosts its durability while weighing more than 500 pounds lighter than the previous Raptor. Raptor fans will welcome the return of its 2017 Raptorrobust Fox Racing suspension, which has been upgraded over previous generations. The highlight of this redesigned off-road beast, however, is without a doubt Ford’s ferocious new 3.5L V6 EcoBoost engine. Equipped with twin turbochargers and mated to a revolutionary 10-speed automatic transmission, the new V6 will leave the 6.2L V8 present in the older Raptors in the dust. Ford has yet to release the exact numbers for the V6 EcoBoost, but those in the know have said that it will turn out around 450 horsepower, which is a significant boost over the V8 it is replacing.

Additional features include paddle shifters mounted to the steering wheel and a Terrain Management System with numerous drive modes, which reportedly include Normal, 2017 RaptorStreet, Weather, Mud, Baja, and Rock. Ford has been somewhat tight-lipped about other features, as they have been with the V6’s specifications, but more information will come to light as we get closer to the Raptor’s projected release in the fall of 2016. Until then, off-roaders, mudders, and truck lovers in Houston will just have to wait patiently, but the payoff will be all the sweeter. When that wonderful day does arrive, come by Randall Reed’s Planet Ford in Humble, TX and find out what it really means to be “Built Ford Tough.”

Randall Reed’s Planet Ford in Humble, serving Houston, Crosby, Conroe and Atascocita, has plenty of new Edge models in stock for Houston-area drivers to check out now!

The 2015 Edge has a bold new look even while retaining its familiar streamlined silhouette, and it is sure to stand out from the crowd on the dealership lot. Sharply accented lines running across the side panels evoke the Edge nameplate, while the strong, sculpted wheel arches and wider wheelbase give it a more aggressive stance than previous models. The premium trim levels have additional design elements that are sure to turn heads driving around Houston, like the chrome accents on the doors and wheels of the Titanium and custom front and rear fascias on the Sport. Of course, one can’t judge a book solely by its cover, and the new Ford Edge continues to impress once you climb inside.

Elegance and style flow throughout the cabin of the 2015 Edge. Even though it is the basic trim level, the SE’s interior evokes a feeling of understated luxury and obvious utility, and it only gets better from there. Available leather-trimmed seats, ambient lighting, and metal-plated accents in the higher trim levels add to the impeccable style that Ford’s design team brought to the Edge’s interior. The available Vista Sunroof offers a stunning view on clear days and adds a special touch to both daily commutes and long summer road trips across Texas.

Fuel efficiency is also a highlight of the new model year, as the 2015 Edge is the first of its kind to offer a standard EcoBoost engine. The 2.0L twin-scroll turbocharged EcoBoost I-4 delivers 24 combined MPG, while the Edge Sport’s 2.7L EcoBoost V6 offers 21 combined MPG. Every trim level can be equipped with Intelligent All-Wheel Drive as well as a Class II Towing package, meaning that your new Ford Edge can handle just about anything that gets thrown at it.

Available driver-assist technologies like the Blind Spot Information System, Lane Keeping System, Adaptive Cruise Control, and the new front-facing 180-degree camera keeps you and your passengers safe on the road while the standard rear-view camera and available Active Park Assist keep your Edge safe in the parking lot. Come by Randall Reed’s Planet Ford to take this incredible crossover for a test drive, and you’ll see how the Edge is prepared for point A, point B, and absolutely everything in between.
