Planet Ford Loves Ford F-150 Raptor: Toughest, Smartest Truck

2017 Ford F-150 Raptor is as smart as it is tough and capable.

2017 Ford F-150 Raptor is as smart as it is tough and capable.

At Randall Reed’s Planet Ford in Humble, we have always loved the Ford F-150 Raptor. What is not to love about it. Well now, there is even more! Check out Ford’s toughest, smartest, and most capable truck for the ultimate off-road experience.

This is one touch vehicle! The all-new, high-strength steel frame is unique to Ford’s F-150 Raptor. The Ford truck’s high-strength, military-grade, aluminum-alloy body help save more than 500 pounds of weight for improved performance and capability.

It has brains, too! The F-150 Raptor is powered by a new, high-output 3.5-liter EcoBoost® engine with more horsepower and torque than current Raptor’s 411-horsepower, 434-lb.-ft. 6.2-liter V8; all-new 10-speed transmission; advanced LED lighting, and camera technology for improved visibility day or night.

Don’t worry, this is one of the most capable trucks out there, to! Now redesigned, it features larger FOX Racing Shox with more suspension travel. The all-new terrain management technology helps the F-150 Raptor tackle America’s toughest trails – from dry washes in the Mojave Desert to Moab’s rocky terrain to Texas mud, Nevada sand and Colorado snow.

The new Raptor features calibration changes to its powertrain, driveline, traction control, ABS and AdvanceTrac stability control for optimal performance. There are six preset modes for the truck depending on terrain and driving conditions:

  • Normal mode for everyday driving
  • Street mode for higher-performance, on-road driving
  • Weather mode for rain, snow or ice
  • Mud and sand mode for muddy and sandy trails and terrain
  • Baja mode for high-speed desert running
  • Rock mode for low-speed rock crawling

Creature Comforts

F-150 Raptor€'s interior design is about creating a comfortable place for the driver and passengers.

The Raptor was created to be comfortable place for the driver and passengers whether on a family adventure or off-road excursion.

While the exterior of the F-150 Raptor is designed to project an image, the interior of the truck is about creating a comfortable place for driver and passengers to enjoy their time on- and off-road.

Ford Tops Car and Driver 10 Must Drive Vehicles

Screen Shot 2014-12-14 at 5.53.37 PMAt Randall Reed’s Planet Ford in Humble, we would add a few more Fords we love to the “10 Cars You Must Drive Before You Die” list, but the Model T certainly is worthy of the Car and Driver magazine honor.

Per Car and Driver: Compared with many of the cars in this collection, the prospect of getting behind the wheel of a Model T Ford might seem a trifle tame, not to mention primitive. Just 20 hp, two forward speeds, three foot pedals (one for reverse), advance the spark, retard the spark, a top speed of about 40 mph—novel, but hardly a thrill ride. However, the unique part of this experience is cultural.

Driving a Model T gives the operator a portal into the dawn of the automobile age, when cars made the transition from toys for the few to an everyday necessity for the many. It can be argued that more people learned to drive in a Model T than in any other car ever and that no motor vehicle has had a bigger influence on history. At one time, shortly after World War I, half the cars on the planet were Model T Fords, a fact that makes the prospect of actually driving one a bit more plausible than driving some of the other cars arrayed here. When Model T production ended in May 1927 after a 19-year run, the tally stood at just over 15 million. A good many of those cars have survived—experts estimate at least 25,000—in decent running condition.

Car and Driver Picks Top 20 Fords of All Time

Ford-for-all and all-for-Ford! Car and Driver magazine names the best 20 Ford cars of all time. Our team at Randall Reed’s Planet Ford in Humble (serving Kingwood, Atascocita, katy, and Conroe areas) have more than 20 favorites. We tried and couldn’t narrow it down. Which one is your Ford fave?

Ford Motor Company has been building vehicles since 1903, so there have been many wonderful models to roll off the production line. Through sheer longevity, Ford is bound to have built some great vehicles over 111 years, right? Absolutely! So many in fact, per Car and Driver, “they’ve actually built enough great cars that it’s tough to pare the list down to 20”

So, how did the magazine measure greatness? The magazine says their final working criteria is wildly inconsistent, contradictory, and irrational.

Check out the magazines Greatest Fords of All Time.
