Planet Ford Supports Komen Race for the Cure for Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Randall Reed’s Planet Ford is proud to be a supporter of the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure in Houston.   Our team was in full force on Saturday, October and ready to “run for the cure.”  The team brought our “In the Pink” custom-created 2014 Ford Mustang, which made its on-air debut on Fox 26 News in Houston last week with Ruben Dominguez of Fox 26 and Erica Rico, a host on the Q Morning Zoo on 93Q.  Erica is driving Planet’s “pink” Ford to help raise awareness about breast cancer screenings, research and Planet Ford’s fundraising efforts.

Planet Ford in Humble (serving Kingwood, Atascocita, Katy, Conroe and Houston) has joined forces with the Northeast Hospital Foundation for the Memorial Hermann Cancer Center – Northeast. The entire month of October, Planet Ford on Hwy. 59 will donate a portion of the sale of every new Ford for Project Mammogram.

The days of getting a huge gas guzzling SUV are long gone. All you need is an effective, dependable vehicle to run errands and get you where you have to go. The new car market is flooded with new alternatives for subcompact autos and uncovering the ideal one for you could be difficult.

When it comes to safety all three cars receive excellent safety ratings. The Ford Fiesta and Chevy Cruze were named a top safety pick for both 2013 and 2014. U.S. News and World Report says the Fiesta “excels where many subcompact cars fall flat with its nimble handling, great fuel economy and an impressive list of optional features.” The 2014 Ford Fiesta was also ranked as the #2 most affordable small car. Overall, it was a close battle but the Ford Fiesta emerged to take the title.

The Toyota Avalon has Entune with a 6.1-inch touch-screen and an 8 speaker sound system. The worst of the bunch is the Impala with Chevrolet MyLink and OPTIONAL navigation system with some reviewers say the rearview camera resolution is poor.

When you take a step inside these full-size cars you will notice ample interior features. The Ford Taurus has standard heated and cooled seats, optional rear heated seats, more front and rear hip room, and class exclusive multi-contour active motion front seats that have a 6-way lumbar and subtle rolling-pattern massage providing a more relaxed drive.

Reviewers say the Avalon’s cabin boasts an attractive interior design and premium materials, which gives it an upscale feel. The redesigned interior of the Chevy Impala has gained positive reviews but some have noted some shortcomings, such as flimsy plastics on the center console, which detract from the premium feel.

All three cars were crash tested and given a 5 Star safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The 2013 Ford Edge Is A Step Up In Its Class

The SUV market is hotter than the temperature outside! There are so many available options for SUVs and it’s difficult to know what is the right one for you. Randall Reed’s Planet Ford in Humble, TX (serving Houston, Aldine, Conroe and Atascocita) wants to help you out with the tough decision of what to buy.

We want to make your life a little easier when it comes to decide by creating a comparison of the top SUV’s in the class. We compared the 2013 Ford Edge Sport, 2013 Nissan Murano LE, and the 2013 Chevrolet Traverse LTZ based on engine performance, fuel economy, interior, technology, and safety.

The Ford Edge’s Engine performance leads the pack. With three available engines, it produces 305 horsepower and 280 foot-pounds of torque. The Chevrolet Traverse’s engine falls behind producing 281 horsepower and 266 foot pounds of torque. The Nissan Murano came up short with only 260 horsepower and 240 foot pounds of torque.

Fuel economy is one of the most important factors to consumers when shopping for the right SUV. The Edge beats the competition with a combined 22 miles per gallon. The Nissan Murano came in with 20 miles per gallon and the Chevrolet Traverse slumped in with 19 miles per gallon.

A review from USA TODAY reads: “the Edge was stylish inside and out with an attractive sporty, driver-focused dash design.” While Edmunds.com says “it features a modern-looking interior.”

Although reviewers like the pleasing interior design of the Nissan Murano, Kelly Blue book says Rear passengers may find it difficult to get comfortable.

 As for the Chevrolet Traverse… Cars.com says “Both rows in the Traverse sit too close to the floor, which leaves adults’ knees raised.” That leaves the Chevy in an uncomfortable position.

Vehicle technology plays and important role when deciding which SUV to buy. The Ford EDGE comes standard with SYNC and available MyFord Touch. The Traverse comes with Chevrolet MyLink enabling smartphone integration as well as streaming of Pandora and Stitcher internet-based entertainment.

Both the Ford Edge and Chevy Traverse were named a Top Safety Pick of 2013 from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. The Nissan Murano received only MARGINAL ratings for rollover testing from the IIHS.
