Expedition is Bigger, Better & Filled with Dr Pepper?

That’s right! Randall Reed’s Planet Ford in Humble is excited about the Ford Expedition, which is bigger, better and filled with Dr Pepper. The large SUV comes with 15 cupholders standard.  That left Expedition families with a challenge. Ford families had yet to find drinks packaged with enough cans to fill its wells – until this tailgating season! Ford and Dr Pepper are teaming up for a delicious way to fill those cupholders. They have created a limited-edition 15-pack for Expedition customers.

“We’re solving one of Expedition’s last unsolved big customer needs – what to do with 15 cupholders,” said Adam Longarzo, Ford Expedition consumer marketing manager. “We’ve teamed up with Dr Pepper to create a 15-pack that puts a drink in each holder and highlights another reason why this is a ‘better big’ vehicle.”

The special packs were launched at the annual University of Texas versus University of Oklahoma football game at the Cotton Bowl Stadium in Dallas. While both football teams try for a win, September marks the best year-to-date sales performance for Expedition since 2007, with overall sales running 53 percent more than last year. For those looking to the future, the 2020 Expedition arrives in showrooms soon.

Expedition continues to build on its success with upgrades and new additions to the lineup. This includes the new King Ranch edition complete with signature two-tone paint on the exterior and premium Del Rio leather accented by the distinctive grain of Ziricote wood veneer on the interior, which of course includes 15 cupholders. The King Ranch “Running W” logo is emblazoned into the seatbacks of all three rows.

Stylin’ Ford Ranger

Father and son designers Neil and Collin Tjin are at it again. Their 2019 Ford Ranger Tjin Edition features a wide low street-ready stance.

Following up their purple RTR Ford Mustang from the 2018 show, the Tjins were looking to create their unique take on Ranger, going the opposite direction of a lifted Ranger, which is one of the most common modifications made to Ford’s midsize pickup truck. Tjin Edition is among the first new-generation Ford Rangers slammed to the ground via an air suspension, lowered 8 inches in the front and 9 inches in the rear. Tjin worked with JR’s Wheels and Tires to provide a sinister look, fitting Falken tires on custom 20-inch Rotiform LHR-M three-piece wheels. The 2.3-liter EcoBoost is upgraded with a Roush Performance intake, a Ford Performance cat-back exhaust and differential cover, Optima yellow-top battery and RPG front-mounted intercooler. Stopping power comes from Baer six-piston calipers and 14-inch rotors in the front and rear.

Styling changes include a set of RTR fender flares, an RTR grille with triangle LED lights, custom BASF yellow applied by L&R Auto Body, a one-off wood bed floor in black with stainless steel hardware, retractable bed cover from Retrax, PowerTank CO2system, Rigid fog lights and Lumens bed lights. The cockpit features four Recaro Sportster CS seats that recline, plus Schroth harnesses.

The new truck joins the lineup of RTR Mustang and RTR F-150, with the Ranger created to deliver a balance of street-ability, overlanding and trail capability. Signature RTR modern-aggressive styling and proven tactical performance are focal points. Equipped with custom overland styling touches that are purposeful and practical, such as a SkyRise tent and integrated snowboard support capsule, the truck uses a Fox tuned by Ford Performance off-road suspension leveling kit providing 2-inch front lift, underbody rock protection, as well as custom RTR fenders housing RTR Tech 6 wheels with 33” Nitto Ridge Grappler tires.

This new RTR Rambler Ford Ranger is equipped with everything needed to explore the great outdoors. Whether solo or with a partner, it promises time off the grid to get in touch with all that nature has to offer.

Overlanding necessities that turn this truck into the perfect mobile campsite include a Tepui hard-shell tent, Trail Kitchens stove on a bed slide, plus a DC Safety first-aid and roadside assistance kit.

Planet Ford in Humble and Ford Announce the Sporty Ranger FX2 Package

Randall Reed’s Planet Ford in Humble is excited to share the new Ranger FX2 Package as another choice for customers who want off-road styling and capability in a two-wheel-drive offering. Available to order now, learn more about this sporty package below!

“FX2 expands Ranger’s options for customers who want tough, off-road style with the functionality of a locking differential but don’t need four-wheel drive,” said Brian Bell, Ford Ranger marketing manager. “This is another way our customers can personalize Ranger to match their lifestyle while getting a great value.”

Aimed at more urban markets, the FX2 Package rides on 17- or available 18-inch off-road tires to add even tougher styling to two-wheel-drive Ranger. A front underbody guard and air dam-delete provide even more distinction, while shielding the underbody and improving approach angles.

Adding to Ranger’s two-wheel-drive capability, the FX2 Package includes an electronic-locking rear differential and off-road-tuned suspension for increased traction and performance off-road. Ford’s off-road cluster screen adds to the FX2 experience inside, where drivers can see pitch, roll and yaw in real time.

Tough looks, not tough choices

Demand for Ranger personalization options continues to increase, with two in every three buyers opting for a Sport Appearance Package, Chrome Appearance Package or STX Appearance Package, while one in every three selects the FX4 Off-Road Package. Over half of Ranger buyers are choosing the Trailer Tow Package.

“We’re seeing sales trends that tell us to grow Ranger’s capability and appearance options even further,” said Chad Callander, Ford Ranger consumer marketing manager. “The FX2 Package is a result of us listening to our customers and what they’re demanding from their trucks.”

Ranger offers a wide variety of packages and options, including the new Black Appearance Package with black accents and high-gloss black wheels, the Sport Appearance Package with Magnetic Gray-painted accents and unique wheels and the Chrome Appearance Package with chrome body accents and bright chrome wheels.

FX2 is the latest addition to Ranger’s capability offerings, which include the Trailer Tow Package with a 4-pin/7-pin wiring harness and Class IV trailer hitch receiver and the FX4 Off-Road Package featuring an electronic locking rear differential and Terrain Management System with Trail Control.

It all starts with Built Ford Tough

Ford Ranger answers the call of truck customers looking for an affordable, rugged and maneuverable midsize pickup that’s Built Ford Tough. Torture-tested alongside Ford F-150 trucks, Ranger quality starts with a high-strength steel frame backbone, proven Ford-built 2.3-liter EcoBoost® engine and class-exclusive 10-speed automatic transmission. Great features like a standard 4G LTE modem with Wi-Fi for up to 10 devices and an array of available dealer-installed accessories make Ranger a perfect partner for every adventure.

“What’s most important for our customers is that any personalization offering starts with Built Ford Tough DNA,” said Callander. “You know Ranger is going to live up to Ford’s proven truck standards, however you customize it.”

Ford Unveils New 2020 NASCAR Xfinity Series Mustang as Latest Addition to Ford Performance Motorsports Lineup

Courtesy of Ford Media

At Randall Reed’s Planet Ford in Humble (serving Atascocita, Kingwood, Conroe, Katy, Houston areas), our team loves NASCAR and so do many of customers. That’s why we wanted to share the latest news from Ford Performance. Last week, the American automaker revealed their new NASCAR Xfinity Series Ford Mustang that will be racing in 2020. How cool is that? It is the fifth all-new motorsports Mustang in the past year. It was developed by both Ford Design and the Ford Performance Technical Center; which is where development tools and simulators are advancing both race and production vehicles for Ford customers.

This awesome, all-new Mustang will join the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series, National Hot Rod Association Funny Car division, Virgin Australia Supercars Championship, and grassroots Cobra Jet, which have all been in the winner’s circle in their respective forms of racing.

All of the new racing Mustangs were projects that included members of Ford’s engineering and aerodynamics teams Technical Center in Concord, NC. Over the years, the facility has evolved from racing-only to a test-bed of development for production vehicles as well as motorsports including the allnew 2020 Mustang Shelby GT500.

“We’ve always talked about Mustang being a car that was born to race, and it’s been gratifying to see it performing so well in multiple series around the world,” said Mark Rushbrook, global director, Ford Performance Motorsports.  “It’s a credit to all of our engineers and teams that have worked so hard to make Mustang a championship contender right out of the box.”

In addition to the new motorsports Mustangs, Ford also competes with the Mustang GT4 in the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge Series in North America, and the FIA British GT4 Championship in Europe.

In 2019, Team Penske captured five of the first 15 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series events with drivers Brad Keselowski and Joey Logano. Stewart-Haas Racing’s Kevin Harvick has also won two Cup events, including this past weekend at Michigan International Speedway.

“Ford and NASCAR have enjoyed a long and storied partnership, and the iconic Mustang has solidified its place within that legacy with an impressive performance in the NASCAR Xfinity Series,” said Ben Kennedy, NASCAR managing director of racing operations and international development. “We’re looking forward to seeing what the newest generation of the Mustang will do on the track.”

The previous generation of the Xfinity Mustang hit the road to race full-time in 2011, and was part of winning the driver’s championship three times and the owner’s title on six occasions. The all-new NASCAR Xfinity Series Mustang will debut at Daytona International Speedway on February 15, 2020.

Randall Reed’s Planet Ford Gives a Glimpse at the All-New Shelby GT500

Start your engines. Randall Reed’s Planet Ford has exciting auto news about the all-new Shelby GT500 from Ford!

The most powerful street-legal Ford ever built can achieve 0-100-0 in 10.6 seconds. The Shelby GT500 sends drivers on a visceral driving experience typically reserved for exotic supercars thanks to its 760-horsepower engine, ultra-quick Tremec 7-speed dual-clutch transmission and the largest front brakes of any domestic sports coupe.

Beyond the raw power and ultra-fast shifts, advanced control systems optimize the capabilities of the chassis and powertrain to create distinct drive modes – or personalities – to get the maximum performance from every aspect of the Shelby GT500 performance hardware.

“The range of brute-force drag acceleration, seamless road shifts and amazingly smooth shifts on the track further highlights how the soul of the Shelby GT500 is elevated in our most advanced Mustang ever,” said Ed Krenz, Ford Performance chief program engineer. “Effortlessly handling the 760 horsepower is our segment-first Tremec dual-clutch transmission, with an advanced control system that enhances GT500’s five drive modes to deliver a driving experience once reserved only for exotic supercars.”

In a Clutch!

Its first-in-class 7-speed dual-clutch transmission delivers more consistent power and torque compared to manual transmissions, while its computer-controlled mechanism can upshift as quick as 80 milliseconds – faster than a blink of an eye – making it the most capable Mustang powertrain ever.

“In many ways, this is like having two transmissions in one,” said Pat Morgan, Ford Performance powertrain manager. “On one hand, it enables performance at the outer reaches of straight-line quickness with minimal torque interruption, yet provides an incredible amount of finesse and control in track environments for maximum stability and predictability at the limits of lateral acceleration.

Drive-Mode Engage

Shelby GT500’s five drive modes fully optimize the capabilities of the dual-clutch transmission and active chassis systems – from ultra-smooth road shifts in normal mode to forceful powershifts in drag mode – providing a personality for every type of performance driving.

“Every aspect of the Shelby GT500 driving experience changes with the mode – be that the throttle responsiveness and snap of the shifts you feel in the seat of your pants, or the ‘pop and burble’ of the exhaust in performance modes. It’s a full multisensory visceral experience,” said Morgan.

Power output is transmitted to the 3.73:1 Torsen limited-slip independent rear suspension via a carbon fiber driveshaft for reduced rotational mass and torsional distortion, plus larger halfshafts and a redesigned rear suspension hub for added strength.

Ready for your own dream car now?! The award-wining Planet Ford team in Humble is ready to help (serving Atascocita, Kingwood, Conroe, Katy and greater Houston). We have a huge selection of sleek performance vehicles available. Take the drive down Hwy. 59 or shop online anytime at PlanetFord59.com.

Ford Unveils All-New 7.3-Liter V8 for Super Duty Trucks

Start your engines, Randall Reed’s Planet Ford in Humble has some torque-upped news from Ford! America’s best-selling truck for 42 years, the F-Series, is once again raising the bar for capability with its all-new 7.3-liter V8 gasoline engine. The 7.3-liter engine in Super Duty pickup cranks out best-in-class gas V8 output of 430 horsepower at 5,500 rpm and best-in-class torque of 475 ft.-lb. at 4,000 rpm.

This is exclusive to Ford. No other competitor provides such a powerful and advanced gasoline engine in such a broad range of offerings – from Class 2 Super Duty pickups through Class 7 commercial trucks.

“The 7.3-liter is designed for maximum durability in the harshest environments given that our customers live and work in these conditions every day,” said Joel Beltramo, Ford manager for gas V8 engines. “This engine has the largest displacement in its class and is designed to provide benefits in key areas like power, durability, ease of maintenance and total operating costs.”

Ford F-Series, America’s best-selling truck for 42 years, is once again raising the bar for capability with its all-new 7.3-liter V8 gasoline engine. The 7.3-liter engine in Super Duty pickup cranks out best-in-class gas V8 output of 430 horsepower at 5,500 rpm and best-in-class torque of 475 ft.-lb. at 4,000 rpm.

Based on decades of commercial engine experience, the 7.3-liter V8 delivers class-leading performance in a compact package. The 7.3-liter V8 features an overhead valve architecture that generates power low in the rev range to help get heavier loads moving sooner and with greater confidence. It also features a variable-displacement oil pump, extra-large main bearings, forged steel crankshaft for durability, and piston cooling jets to help manage temperatures under heavy load.

7.3L Gas V8 Super Duty Fact Sheet

The all-new 7.3-liter will be debut in Super Duty F-250 and F-350 pickup models. It joins the 6.2-liter V8 gas engine in the Super Duty lineup, along with the upgraded third-generation 6.7-liter Power Stroke® diesel V8. Additional power and capability numbers, including Super Duty towing and payload ratings, as well as power numbers for the upgraded 6.7-liter Power Stroke diesel, will be announced later this year.

A dyno-certified version of the 7.3-liter V8 producing 350 horsepower at 3,900 rpm and 468 lb.-ft. of torque at 3,900 rpm will be standard on F-450 chassis cab, F-550, the new F-600, F-650 and F-750 Medium Duty trucks, and F-53 and F-59 stripped chassis models. The upgraded E-Series will also feature the 7.3-liter V8. An optional calibration intended to help customers reduce their fuel consumption will also be offered; more information will be made available at a later date.

For F-250 through F-600 models the 7.3-liter engine is paired with the all-new Ford-designed and Ford-built 10-speed heavy-duty TorqShift® automatic transmission. All other commercial models retain the TorqShift® heavy-duty 6-speed automatic transmission.

Ford Acquires Quantum Signal Accelerating the Development of Autonomous Driving

Randall Reed’s Planet Ford in Humble (serving greater Houston, Katy, Atascocita, Kingwood, Conroe) is excited to see that Ford is taking steps to accelerate their autonomous driving plans. The automaker has acquired Quantum Signal, a cutting-edge company founded in 1999, that works on mobile robotics for numerous clients, including the military. Although not widely known to the public, Quantum Signal helped the military develop software that allowed it to remotely control robotic vehicles from thousands of miles away. In addition, it built a simulation environment that is capable of testing autonomous vehicle designs that is still being used currently.

Quantum Signal has operated quietly over the years, but according to Ford Quantum Signal has been on their radar for quite some time. Over the past few years, Ford has been assembling a team of uniquely qualified experts in software development, simulation and machine learning from all around the world as it accelerates autonomous vehicle development.

To further advance Ford’s goal of launching a self-driving vehicle business, the automaker has acquired Quantum Signal and will make use of its extensive experience in real-time simulation and algorithm development, as well as robotics, sensing and perception technology. The wide range of the group’s work portfolio means it will be able to support Ford in numerous areas as the company develops self-driving vehicles and transportation as a service business, including software development and hardware prototyping.
