The 2020 Super Duty: Now More Off-Road Capable than Ever

Randall Reed’s Planet Ford in Humble is excited to share some Super Duty news! Do you need a Super Duty, but enjoy off-roading too? Now you can get the best of both worlds with Ford! The 2020 F-Series Super Duty will deliver even more capability in an all-new way with the Tremor Off-Road Package. The new offering pushes the limits of Super Duty off-road capability with new hardware and tech to handle rough terrain, providing greater towing and payload than the Ram Power Wagon. This is the most capable off-road Super Duty ever.

“A growing number of Super Duty customers use their trucks for more than work. They’re fishing, camping and towing boats on weekends and they go off-road, so we designed this truck specifically for them – more ground clearance, bigger shocks, bigger tires and more off-road capability,” said Todd Eckert, Ford truck group marketing manager. “Tremor balances what customers demand in terms of work with what they need in the great outdoors.”

While the existing Ford Super Duty is already a workhorse and adventure machine — it’s nothing like this! The Tremor package is available for XLT, Lariat, King Ranch and Platinum F-250 and F-350 Super Duty with the all-new 7.3-liter gas V8 or third-generation 6.7-liter Power Stroke^® diesel. Tremor can be specified for 4×4 single-rear-wheel SuperCrew trucks with a 6.75-foot box; F-250 models also require the high-capacity trailer tow package.

But Wait, There’s More!

As if you need more reason to fall in love, this off-road upgrade option includes a set of aggressive 35-inch-diameter Goodyear Wrangler Duratrac maximum-traction tires – the largest diameter tires available on a heavy-duty pickup – mounted on a set of unique 18-inch matte-finished black wheels. These tires, when combined with the 2-inch front-end lift and shorter air dam, result in an impressive 10.8 inches of ground clearance, best-in-class water fording of 33 inches, and the best approach and departure angles of any Super Duty ever – 31.65 degrees and 24.51 degrees, respectively.

In Motion

Progressive-rate springs balance heavy-duty towing performance needs while also controlling body motion on rutted, rock-strewn trails. The rear stabilizer bar is tuned for a lower spring rate so passengers experience less head toss over obstacles during severe suspension articulation.

Custom 1.7-inch piston twin-tube dampers work to control body motion. The massive shocks feature substantial oil volume that helps keep internal temperatures low, while the large cross-section works to improve responsiveness. At very low speeds, they are tuned for soft damping, which is dialed up for control over more severe impacts. Internal hydraulic rebound helps soften the blow of the hardest hits.

Locking Good

Tremor uses a locking rear differential with electronic shift-on-the-fly engagement and a new Dana^® limited-slip front differential. In certain modes, the front axle can sense when a tire has lost traction and uses the brakes to send power to the wheel with traction.

Additional hardware includes off-road running boards that tuck up next to the body for damage control, extended-axle vent tubes, and the same beefy skid plates as fitted to FX4 models.

Pick a Mode, Any Mode!

The 2020 Super Duty Tremor features selectable drive modes, which allow customers to choose the setting best suited to driving conditions. These include normal for around-town use, tow/haul for optimized performance under load, eco for enhanced fuel economy, slippery for icy conditions, and deep snow/sand for low-traction conditions. Unique to Tremor is a new rock-crawl mode, which is optimized to operate in 4×4 low and is enabled by the standard TorqShift^® 10-speed automatic transmission. Tremor trucks equipped with the 7.3-liter gas engine have a 53:1 crawl ratio while those equipped with the 6.7-liter diesel engine have a 44:1 crawl ratio.

For the first time ever, Super Duty gets Trail Control^™, a feature that debuted for F-150 Raptor and Ranger. It functions in any mode like cruise control for off-road driving.

For the seventh consecutive year, Ford Motor Company has presented Randall Reed’s Planet Ford in Humble, Texas with the automaker’s highest honors.

This week, Ford executives award the Randall Reed family, owners; John Centner, Planet Ford Humble GM; and the entire Planet Ford team with the Ford Triple Crown, President’s Award, Partner in Quality, One Ford Elite and Premier Club. All of these awards are difficult to earn in one year, and Planet Ford has achieved this for seven years in a row.

Summer Safety with Our Furry Friends

If you’re like many of us at Planet Ford in Humble, your pet is a member of the family. You want to do all you can to keep them safe and healthy – especially during the hot summers in Texas. As we approach the dog days of summer, we wanted to share a few helpful tips to help beat the heat for your furry friends whether you’re on the road or at home.

Heat Advisory

To prevent your pet from overheating, take these precautions provided by experts with the ASPCA :

Visit Your Vet for Your Pre-Summer Check-up: Get your dog tested for heartworms if he or she is not on a year-round heartworm preventative.

Plenty of Water: Dehydration can happen quickly in our furry friends, so make sure they have plenty of shade to rest and water to drink. Be sure that your pets have clean, fresh drinking water each day. Also note that certain health conditions and medications may result in your pet requiring a higher daily water intake. Speak with your vet to see if that applies to you.

Know the Symptoms of Overheating:

Excessive panting or difficulty breathing
Increased heart and respiratory rate
Drooling
Mild weakness
Stupor or even collapsing

Symptoms can also include seizures, bloody diarrhea, and vomiting along with an elevated body temperature of 104 degrees or greater.

Watch for Paws on Asphalt: When the temperature is high your pet’s paw pads can burn. Also keep in mind that because pets are closer to the ground, your pet’s body temperature can increase quicker than you realize.

Did you Know? Animals with flat faces, such as Pugs and Persian cats, are more susceptible to heat strokes since they cannot pant as effectively. These pets, along with pets that are elderly, overweight, and those with heart or lung diseases, should be kept cool in air-conditioned rooms as much as possible.

Car Safety – Heat and Travel

NEVER Leave Your Animal Alone in a Parked Vehicle: Not only is it illegal in some states, but it can result in a fatal heat stroke.

Keep Your Pets Safe and Secure: Whether you have a custom seat belt, car-seat or carrier for your dog, it is always best for them to be buckled up just like you!

Pack a Travel Kit for Your Pet: Before you hit the road, be sure you have all of your pet’s essentials; food, water, a leash, waste bags and medications. Your pet would probably love a toy or bone, too. 😉

Summer Safety Suggestions for You and Your Family

Ready to hop in your Ford and head out for adventure? Before you do, there are a few quick safety tips to keep in mind in your adventures around town and on the road. Randall Reed’s Planet Ford in Humble is here to help ensure that you and your family stay safe this summer with some great tips.

Splish Splash Water Adventures

Heading out to the river or maybe the local water park, Big Rivers? (Psst… Planet Ford in Humble is giving away a free family 4-pack of tickets to Big Rivers with the purchase of a new Ford.*) Before you go, here are some water safety tips courtesy of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Always supervise children when in or around water. A responsible adult should constantly watch young children.
Teach kids to swim. Formal swimming lessons can protect young children from drowning.
Learn cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). Your CPR skills could save someone’s life. Click here to find your local American Red Cross CPR course.
Install a fence around home pools.

Recreational boating and river trips can be a cool way to spend time outdoors with friends and family. Make boating safety a priority.

Wear a properly fitted life jacket each time you and your loved ones are on the water.

Heat Alert

Did you know that infants and children up to 4 years of age are at the greatest risk for heat-related illnesses? However, nobody is immune. The CDC recommends taking these steps to prevent heat-related illnesses:

Never leave infants, children, or pets in a parked car, even if the windows are cracked open.
Dress infants and children in loose, lightweight, light-colored clothing.
Schedule outdoor activities carefully, for morning and evening hours.
Stay cool with cool showers or baths.
Seek medical care immediately if you or your child have symptoms of heat-related illness.

Summer Sun Needs SPF

Putting the top down is fun, but you need to watch out for the sun! The CDC states that just a few serious sunburns can put you and your child at an increased risk for skin cancer later on in life. That’s why it’s vital to apply (and reapply) sunscreen to protect you and your loved one’s skin from the harmful UV rays when enjoying the outdoors. The CDC recommends:

Cover up. Clothing that covers your and your child’s skin helps protect against UV rays.
Use sunscreen with at least SPF (sun protection factor) 15 and UVA (ultraviolet A) and UVB (ultraviolet B) protection, a.k.a. a broad spectrum sunscreen, each time you and your child go outside.

Fireworks Fun

We all love to ooh and ahh at fireworks, but some things are better left to the professionals. However, we realize that many of our Planet Ford followers may experiment with some fireworks this summer, so we’re here to give you a few tips on fireworks safety with the National Safety Council.

Never allow young children to handle fireworks.
Older children should use them only under close adult supervision.
Never hold lighted fireworks in your hands.
Soak both spent and unused fireworks in water for a few hours before discarding.
Keep a bucket of water nearby to fully extinguish fireworks that don’t go off or in case of fire.

Ford Establishes Top Ranking in J.D. Power Initial Quality Study

Customers at Randall Reed’s Planet Ford in Humble, Texas expect quality customer care and exceptional quality in their vehicles. We are proud to deliver both. In a new study from J.D. Power U.S. Initial Quality Study Ford has been ranked among the top five brands in the U.S.

The study measures vehicle quality by analyzing problems reported by owners in the first 90 days of ownership. Ford nameplates ranking tops in their segments are Ford Ranger for midsize pickups and Ford Fusion for midsize cars.
